2018 Panini Donruss Optic Baseball Hobby Box
What are these options?
- Hobby Box
- The full-size box sold through card shops rather than big-box stores. It has the most packs and the best odds, and most modern hobby boxes guarantee at least one autograph or memorabilia card. Pack and card counts vary by product line. Older listings sometimes call this a wax box.
- Blaster Box
- The small retail box sold at stores like Walmart and Target, usually the cheapest full box on the shelf. Autographs are not guaranteed, but many blasters carry exclusive parallels you cannot pull from a hobby box.

Frequently asked
Who's 2018 Panini Donruss Optic for?
The deep end. People buy this chasing top rookie patch autos and legend signatures, and the price reflects it.
What makes 2018 Donruss Optic different from regular 2018 Donruss?
Optic is printed on chromium stock instead of regular cardstock, giving it a shiny, reflective finish. It also has a much heavier focus on autographs, with 2 signed cards per box on average, and features a rainbow of colorful parallels that regular Donruss doesn't have.
Who are the key rookies to chase?
Shohei Ohtani is the marquee rookie, but the set also features Ronald Acuña Jr., Gleyber Torres, and Rafael Devers as major chase cards. All four have Rated Rookie base cards and can be pulled in various parallel versions.
How many autographs will I get in a hobby box?
You'll pull 2 autographs per box on average. The product has hot boxes in the case that can yield 5 autographs instead of 2, so there's variance depending on which box you get.
What are the parallel tiers and how rare are they?
Parallels range from common (Bronze, Holo, Pink, Purple, Red/Yellow, Shock, White Sparkles) to numbered tiers: Aqua /299, Orange /199, Blue /149, Red /99, Carolina Blue /50, Black /25, Gold /10, Cracked Ice /7, Green /5, and Gold Vinyl 1/1. The higher the number, the scarcer the card.
What's the difference between the hobby box and the Mega Box?
The Mega Box contains 60 cards total and includes 20 exclusive Shock Parallels that can only be found in that format. A regular hobby box has 20 packs of 4 cards each (80 cards total) with different insert ratios.
Are there autographs from current stars and legends?
Yes. Optic Autographs includes a mix of veterans and prospects, while Significant Signatures focuses on 25 big-name players. You'll also find hard-signed cards from retired Hall of Famers as part of the Retro 1984 Signatures insert set.
What's in a typical hobby box besides autographs?
Each box yields 15 Rated Rookies and 15 inserts or Prizm parallels on average. The base set is 175 cards total, split between 100 traditional player cards, 30 Diamond Kings, 35 Rated Rookies, and 10 All-Stars.
Are there hot boxes in a case?
Yes. Each 12-box case has four hot boxes. Two are autograph hot boxes with 5 signed cards instead of 2, and two are Prizm hot boxes with 20 numbered parallels (one per pack).
