2012-13 Panini Brilliance Basketball Hobby Box
What are these options?
- Hobby Box
- The full-size box sold through card shops rather than big-box stores. It has the most packs and the best odds, and most modern hobby boxes guarantee at least one autograph or memorabilia card. Pack and card counts vary by product line. Older listings sometimes call this a wax box.
- Cases
- The factory-sealed carton a product ships in, holding a set number of boxes. A full case is the whole carton; an inner case is a smaller sealed block from inside it. Case buyers get untouched pack sequencing and a lower price per box. Some rare cards are seeded about once per case, which is what collectors mean by a case hit.

Frequently asked
What makes this the inaugural Brilliance set?
This is Panini's first Brilliance basketball release, marking the brand's entry into the high-end autograph market for hoops. It features a massive 300-card base with both veteran and rookie autos, plus retro inserts like Starburst and Artist Proofs that collectors hadn't seen in years.
How many autographs are in a typical box?
You'll pull 2 autographs per box on average. The set splits them between Marks of Brilliance (240 veteran and legend autos) and Brilliant Beginnings (60 rookie autos), so you're chasing both established stars and young talent.
What are the key rookie autographs to hunt?
The Brilliant Beginnings subset covers 60 rookies from the 2012-13 class. The YouTube snippets mention Kawhi Leonard and Anthony Davis as notable pulls, so those are likely among the chase cards.
What's in every box besides autographs?
Each box includes 1 memorabilia card, 2 Starburst parallels, and 13 insert cards spread across various themed sets like Game Time Jerseys, Springfield, and Team Tomorrow. That's a lot of hits per box.
What are Starburst and Artist Proofs?
Both are parallel inserts that bring back classic designs from the hobby's past. Starburst parallels exist for all 300 base cards, while Artist Proofs are a separate insert set. They're part of Brilliance's retro appeal.
How many packs and cards per pack?
Each hobby box has 20 packs with 6 cards per pack, totaling 120 cards. That's a solid amount of product for the price point.
What's the base set like?
The 300-card base features current NBA players and stars. It's a solid foundation, but the real chase is the autographs and inserts, especially the rookie autos in Brilliant Beginnings.
