Frequently asked
Who's 2019-20 Upper Deck Artifacts for?
For collectors who want hits without Cup money. Figure on an auto or relic every box or two, with rookies you'll actually recognize.
What are the key rookie cards in this set?
Cale Makar, Filip Zadina, Quinn Hughes, and Ryan Poehling are the carryover rookies from late 2018-19. They appear in the base Rookies subset (#161-180) with multiple parallel tiers. Makar especially is a chase card, especially in premium autograph and relic versions.
How many autographs should I expect per box?
Hobby boxes guarantee 3 hits total, which can be autographs, relics, or Aurum Bounty cards. On average, a case (20 boxes) yields one Rookie Redemption autograph, so roughly 1 auto per 20 boxes if you're buying sealed product.
What's the Aurum Bounty and why should I care?
Aurum is a 48-card insert set that drives a bounty promotion. If you complete the full set and register it on Upper Deck's website, you get two bonus cards plus entry into a race. The first 25 collectors to finish get an exclusive Auston Matthews autograph and a 9-card 2005-06 retro set.
What parallel tiers exist for the base set?
Base cards come in Copper (/299), Emerald (/99), Pink (/85), Aqua (/45), Purple (/20), and Black (/5). The Stars and Legends subsets have similar tiers but different print runs. Premium autograph and relic parallels add even more scarcity, with some numbered to as low as 1/1.
Are there any memorabilia-only inserts?
Yes. NHL Remnants (1:24 packs), Tundra Teammates Duos and Quads, Arena Artifacts (featuring Chicago Stadium relics), Year One Rookies Sweaters (1:48), and Threads of Time (1:300) are all relic-only inserts with low-numbered premium parallels.
What makes this set different from other early-season releases?
Artifacts leans heavily into premium autographs and memorabilia parallels, plus the Rookie Redemption program lets you chase mystery cards that become real once draft picks debut. The Aurum Bounty adds a community-driven element that other sets don't have.
How do Rookie Redemptions work?
Because Artifacts releases before the draft, Upper Deck includes mystery Rookie Redemption cards instead of actual rookie cards. You pull a placeholder, and once 2019 draft picks sign and debut in the NHL, Upper Deck announces which players go with which redemption numbers. You then redeem your card for the actual card.
When did 2019-20 Upper Deck Artifacts come out?
It dropped September 25, 2019.
What's in a 2019-20 Upper Deck Artifacts hobby box?
8 packs per box, 4 cards per pack, 20 boxes per case (two 10-box inner cases)
