Frequently asked

What's the main draw of 2016-17 Black Diamond?

The Diamond Relic Rookie Gems are the headliner. You're chasing cards of Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, Patrik Laine, and other top 2016 rookies with actual diamond pieces embedded in the card, numbered to 99. These are the cards that drive box sales.

How many cards do you get per box?

You get 1 pack of 5 cards plus 1 bonus card from 2016-17 Upper Deck Exquisite Hockey. So 6 cards total per box, but the Exquisite card is a separate product that runs throughout the season.

What's the base set like?

It's small and exclusive: just 50 NHL stars and legends, each numbered to 249. You've got Connor McDavid, Sidney Crosby, Wayne Gretzky, and other big names. The base set also has Pure Black parallels (/99 for vets, /25 for rookies) that are tougher pulls.

Are there autographs in Black Diamond?

Yes, but they're not guaranteed. You'll find autographs on Signature Placards (1:5 odds), Pure Black Signatures, and Signature Rookie Materials with different memorabilia types (jersey, patch, stick, glove). Rookie ink is plentiful in the set.

What are the key rookie cards to hunt?

Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, Patrik Laine, and William Nylander are the big names. Matthews and Marner have the scarcest Diamond Relic Rookie Gems (Quad and Triple, /99). All four also have Lustrous Rookies Signatures cards numbered to 99 or 199.

How do the parallels work?

Base cards come in Pure Black (/99 for veterans, /25 for rookies). Diamond Relic Rookies are numbered to 99 and come in Single, Double, Triple, or Quad versions depending on how many diamond pieces are on the card. There are also one-of-one Pure Black parallels for both vets and rookies.

What's included in the Exquisite bonus pack?

Every box comes with one card from 2016-17 Upper Deck Exquisite Hockey. You might pull base cards (numbered to 149), rookie materials, or rare Exquisite Rookie Jumbo Materials. It's a nice bonus that adds value to the box.
