Frequently asked

What makes this set different from other hockey products?
Chronology is dedicated entirely to retired players and marks the first set made under Upper Deck's agreement with the NHL Alumni Association. Every box is guaranteed at least one autograph, and around 300 different former players are signing cards, making it one of the most comprehensive autograph lineups in hockey card history.
What are the key autograph inserts?
Franchise History Autographs (1:10 packs) are the main chase with team-prefixed cards. Canvas Masterpiece Autographs (Tier 1 at 1:19, Tier 2 at 1:85) feature paintings of big moments, mostly Hall of Famers. Canvas Autographs (1:7 packs) come in Red, Green, and Black versions. Combo Cuts (1/1) are the rarest, pairing two cut signatures on one card.
What are Time Capsules and why do collectors hunt them?
Time Capsules are rip cards with mini cards sealed inside. You have to decide whether to destroy the original card to get the mini. They come in two tiers (1:3 and 1:32 packs), with a 50-card main checklist and 192-card mini checklist. Parallels include Gold (/25) and Black (/15 or less), plus rare mini autographs.
How many autographs should I expect per box?
At least one autograph is guaranteed per box. Two additional spots are reserved for either more signatures or chase cards, so you could pull up to three autographs in a single box depending on what hits.
What's the base set like?
The base set has 100 cards, each serial numbered to 222, making individual cards relatively scarce. It features hockey legends like Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Bobby Orr, and Patrick Roy. Base cards average one per box, or you'll pull a 0 Celsius insert instead (1:3 packs).
Are there any other premium inserts besides autographs?
Yes. Diamond Relics have a gem embedded in the card and average one per 8-box inner case, with base (/36) and autograph (/9) versions. Letterman Patches feature over 150 players (about 90 Hall of Famers), with most signed, and pull around 4-6 per inner case. There are also Dual, Triple, and Quad autographs with low numbering.
What's the case structure?
Each case contains 16 hobby boxes split into two 8-box inner cases. This matters for hits like Diamond Relics (one per inner case) and Letterman Patches (4-6 per inner case).
Is a second volume planned?
Yes. Upper Deck announced a Volume 2 for summer 2020 that will include both current and retired players, expanding beyond the retired-only focus of Volume 1.
When did 2018-19 Upper Deck Chronology come out?
It dropped July 31, 2019.
What's in a 2018-19 Upper Deck Chronology hobby box?
1 pack per box, 4 cards per pack, 16 boxes per case (two 8-box inner cases)
Where can I buy 2018-19 Upper Deck Chronology?
We track listings across the major North American card shops and surface the best price up top. The Buy on eBay links go through the eBay Partner Network.
