What are these options?
- Hobby Box
- The full-size box sold through card shops rather than big-box stores. It has the most packs and the best odds, and most modern hobby boxes guarantee at least one autograph or memorabilia card. Pack and card counts vary by product line. Older listings sometimes call this a wax box.
- Hobby Jumbo Box
- More cards in fewer, oversized packs than a regular hobby box, usually with extra guaranteed hits. It suits collectors who want volume and hits in one buy. Topps calls this tier HTA, short for Home Team Advantage, its hobby-store program.
- Retail Box
- A full box of the individual packs sold loose at big-box stores, often 24 of them. Same base set as the hobby version, with fewer or no guaranteed hits.
- Super Box
- A large club-store box, best known from Costco, bundling a tall stack of packs with extras like oversized cards and box-only parallels. It sits well below a hobby box in price.
- Hanger Box
- The cheapest retail format, a slim box made to hang on a store peg. It gives the most cards per dollar and suits set builders more than hit chasers.
- Cases
- The factory-sealed carton a product ships in, holding a set number of boxes. A full case is the whole carton; an inner case is a smaller sealed block from inside it. Case buyers get untouched pack sequencing and a lower price per box. Some rare cards are seeded about once per case, which is what collectors mean by a case hit.

Frequently asked
Who's 2023 Topps Series 1 for?
The deep end. People buy this chasing top rookie patch autos and legend signatures, and the price reflects it.
What are the key rookie cards in 2023 Topps Series 1?
The big rookie names collectors hunt are Adley Rutschman, Gunnar Henderson, Michael Harris II, Riley Greene, and Anthony Volpe. Rutschman especially has been a popular pull and holds value across parallels.
Who is card #1 and why does it matter?
Juan Soto leads the set as card #1. Unlike recent years, there was no fan vote. Soto's card is always a flagship anchor and tends to hold collector interest.
What's the deal with the Golden Mirror Image Variation Short Prints?
All 330 base cards have a tough short-printed variation with a different photo and golden card back. The Topps logo is gold foil instead of silver, and the back has a gold foil SSP stamp. These replace the old SP and SSP Image Variations.
How many parallels are there, and which are the hardest to pull?
There are 14 base parallels ranging from common (Rainbow Foil at 1:10 packs) to ultra-rare (Printing Plates and Platinum, both 1/1). The numbered tiers like /25 (Memorial Day Camo), /50 (Father's Day and Mother's Day), and /72 (Black, hobby only) are the sweet spot for collectors chasing scarcity without 1/1 prices.
What's the design like compared to past years?
The front features two player photos: an action shot and a smaller portrait. This dual-photo layout repeats every 20 years, matching 2003 and 1983 Topps. It's a clean, classic look that breaks from the recent woodgrain 1987 design.
Are there any retail-exclusive inserts?
Yes. Stars of MLB is retail-only, with one per pack and Red (/70), Black (/25), and Platinum (1/1) parallels. Stars of MLB Chrome inserts are 1:10 retail packs with Refractor parallels. Retail blaster boxes also get exclusive Team Logo Patch cards.
What's the Home Run Challenge and how does it work?
Each hobby and jumbo box includes one code card featuring a superstar like Aaron Judge. You predict the date the player will hit a home run. If you guess correctly, you win an exclusive card. It's a fun interactive element unique to hobby boxes.
How does the jumbo box differ from a standard hobby box?
Jumbo boxes have 10 packs instead of 24 and guarantee 3 hits including at least 1 autograph, versus 1 hit per standard box. Jumbos also get exclusive access to Gold Rainbow Foil parallels (1:2 packs), Sketch Cards, and certain relic cards like Topps Reverence Autograph Patches.
When did 2023 Topps Series 1 come out?
It dropped February 15, 2023.
What's in a 2023 Topps Series 1 hobby box?
24 packs per hobby box, 14 cards per pack, 1 autograph or relic guaranteed per box. Hobby jumbo boxes contain 10 packs with 3 hits including at least 1 autograph.
What's the cheapest 2023 Topps Series 1 hobby box right now?
Cheapest we're tracking is $329.95 CAD. Prices update daily, and the trend arrow on this page shows which way it's been moving.
