What are these options?
- Hobby Box
- The full-size box sold through card shops rather than big-box stores. It has the most packs and the best odds, and most modern hobby boxes guarantee at least one autograph or memorabilia card. Pack and card counts vary by product line. Older listings sometimes call this a wax box.
- Cases
- The factory-sealed carton a product ships in, holding a set number of boxes. A full case is the whole carton; an inner case is a smaller sealed block from inside it. Case buyers get untouched pack sequencing and a lower price per box. Some rare cards are seeded about once per case, which is what collectors mean by a case hit.

Frequently asked
Who's 2023-24 Upper Deck AHL for?
A solid first box. Cheap to crack, fun to rip, and you'll still land the year's rookies without dropping serious cash.
What's the main draw of this set?
The 50-card Star Rookies subset is the centerpiece. You get one per pack, so building that subset is straightforward. It's a solid way to grab cards of emerging AHL talent before they potentially move up to the NHL.
How many autographs should I expect per box?
Roughly one autograph per 1.5 boxes on average. Base autographs hit 1:15 packs, while Star Rookies autographs are rarer at 1:96 packs. It's not a guaranteed auto per box, but you'll see them fairly often.
What are the parallel tiers?
Red Stripes are numbered to 76 (or 99 for inserts), Blue Stars go to 17 (or 35 for inserts), and there are 1/1 Printing Plates. The Blue Stars are the toughest pull. All parallels have a patriotic theme instead of traditional colors.
Are there any inserts besides Star Rookies?
Yes. AHL Throwbacks (1:3 packs) has a vintage look, Hot Shots highlights top prospects, and Tendys focuses on goalies. All three have Red Stripe and Blue Stars parallels, plus autograph versions of select cards.
What's the set size?
150 cards total. The first 100 are regular base cards, and cards 101-150 are the Star Rookies subset.
Is this a good value at $80 per box?
For an AHL-focused product with one auto per 1.5 boxes and a full 150-card set to chase, it's reasonable. You're not paying for big-name NHL rookies, so it's a budget-friendly way to explore the minor league pipeline.
Who are some of the key Star Rookies to watch?
Josh Doan, Drew Commesso, Francesco Pinelli, Brennan Othmann, and Spencer Knight are among the notable prospects in the Star Rookies subset. These are players with NHL pedigree or high draft status.
When did 2023-24 Upper Deck AHL come out?
It dropped July 17, 2024.
