The full-size box sold through card shops rather than big-box stores. It has the most packs and the best odds, and most modern hobby boxes guarantee at least one autograph or memorabilia card. Pack and card counts vary by product line. Older listings sometimes call this a wax box.
Cases
The factory-sealed carton a product ships in, holding a set number of boxes. A full case is the whole carton; an inner case is a smaller sealed block from inside it. Case buyers get untouched pack sequencing and a lower price per box. Some rare cards are seeded about once per case, which is what collectors mean by a case hit.

out; always confirm on the retailer’s own page before buying.
For collectors who want hits without Cup money. Figure on an auto or relic every box or two, with rookies you'll actually recognize.
Q2What makes the base set so rare in Synergy?
The 129-card base set is split into three subsets: veterans and legends are numbered to just /13, while rookies are /23. This makes base cards among the scarcest hits in the product, which is unusual since most products chase inserts instead.
Q3Are autographs guaranteed in a hobby box?
No, autographs aren't promised. They're scattered across multiple insert sets like Greater Than Signatures (1:200 packs), Rink Ink (1:160 packs), and Rink Ink Rookies (1:120 packs). Some Purple base parallels and Light Up the Night Green/Gold parallels also carry autos, but there's no box-level guarantee.
Q4What's the Bounty program and how does it work?
Half of the Red parallel base cards in hobby boxes have scratch-off codes on the back. The first 25 collectors to complete a full 125-card Red Parallel set and redeem the codes at UpperDeckBounty.com win exclusive cards. The first 10 get Gold parallels of both the base set and Cast for Greatness; the next 15 get Gold base sets only.
Q5Which rookies should I be hunting?
The base set rookies (#76-125) are numbered to /23, making them scarce. Notable names include Matt Boldy, Owen Power, Kent Johnson, Matty Beniers, Marco Rossi, and the special R- cards (Dylan Guenther, Jake Sanderson, Juraj Slafkovsky, Shane Wright). Rookie Journey inserts also feature 18 players with separate Home, Away, and Draft versions.
Q6What's the deal with Cast for Greatness metal cards?
Cast for Greatness is a metal card insert set (1:62 packs) featuring rookies, superstars, and retired legends like Wayne Gretzky. The ultra-rare hit is Cast for Greatness Signatures, which are autographed metal cards. Gold parallels of Cast for Greatness are also available as Bounty rewards.
Q7How many parallels are there for the base set?
Base cards come in Red (1:2 hobby), Purple (/99 or fewer, some with autos), and Gold (/25, Bounty achievement only). Red parallels are the most common pull, and half of hobby Red cards have Bounty codes. Rookie SP cards (#116-125) also have rare Portrait versions numbered to /13.
Q8What's the difference between Light Up the Night and Cranked Up!?
Light Up the Night uses Spectrum Light FX stock and is numbered to 899 base with vets and rookies; many Green and Gold parallels carry autographs. Cranked Up! is an acetate set numbered to 699 base with vets, rookies, and legends; it has seven parallel tiers including rare Black and Gold Spectrum /1 cards.
Q9Is this a good value compared to other 2022-23 hockey products?
Synergy's appeal is the low-numbered base set and the variety of special inserts with different technologies (metal, acetate, Spectrum Light FX). If you like chasing parallels and inserts over guaranteed hits, it's solid. The lack of a guaranteed autograph per box means you're paying for the base scarcity and insert variety rather than a hit rate.
Q10What are the best inserts in 2022-23 Upper Deck Synergy?
Worth keeping an eye out for: Cast for Greatness (1:62 packs), Light Up the Night, Cranked Up!, Greater Than Signatures (1:200 packs), Rink Ink / Rink Ink Rookies (1:160 packs / 1:120 packs), 2030 (1:4.5 packs).
